US Lawmakers Back Trump for Declaring Nigeria ‘Country of Particular Concern’

Thirty-one members of the United States Congress have publicly commended President Donald Trump for designating Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern (CPC), citing what they describe as “a growing Christian genocide” in the nation.

In a statement released by House Values Action Team Chairman, Rep. Robert Aderholt, and obtained on Thursday, the lawmakers lauded Trump’s stance as a bold step toward protecting religious freedom and defending persecuted Christians in Nigeria.

“President Trump’s commitment to end the Christian genocide in Nigeria and his designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern gives hope to the people of Nigeria. This persecution of Christians must end,” Aderholt stated.

The group of legislators emphasized that the U.S. must lead the global response against faith-based violence, claiming that terrorist groups in Nigeria have killed “thousands of believers annually.”

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer also praised Trump’s action, saying,

“God bless President Trump for standing up and protecting Christians around the globe. The United States finally has a leader unafraid to do what’s right.”

Other Republican lawmakers including Lisa McClain, Josh Brecheen, Mary Miller, and Mark Alford described the situation in Nigeria as “a moral outrage and a crime against humanity,” calling for sanctions and stronger international intervention.
