The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) members in Abia State have strongly urged the national leadership to prioritize peace within the actors’ community.
These demands were raised during a meeting in Umuahia after the group expressed concerns over alleged attempts by Emeka Rollas, the National President of AGN, to spark discord within the Abia AGN chapter.
The concerned members, including Nathaniel Nwoko, Daniel Egwu, and Chukwuemeka Onyekwere who serves as the Public Relations Officer of Abia AGN, voiced their grievances regarding the failure of the AGN President to acknowledge David Amalaha as the elected Abia State Chairman, following his election in May 2023.
Instead, they claimed that Rollas unilaterally appointed Dorris Ogala as the interim Chairman, disregarding the duly elected executive led by David Amalaha.
The AGN actors in Abia accused the National President of inciting multiple crises and intimidating members by filing complaints with the Zone 9 Police Command labelling some AGN members as supporters of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
They expressed disappointment over the lack of compensation from the AGN National office to the families of deceased actors from Abia State who had significantly contributed to the film industry.
In response to these issues, the David Amalaha-led executive has taken legal action by approaching the High Court, Umuahia, to defend their fundamental rights.
They have advised the AGN National body to respect the judicial process and await the court’s decision. The actors have committed to abide by the court’s ruling.
“We are here to tell the world that the problem in AGN in the state was created by the National office, including the President, Emeka Rollas.
“Let them stop creating parallel groups to distract the good works the Chairman is doing here”, they demanded.
