Akon has revealed that he played a significant role in the career success of Nigerian Afrobeats star Wizkid and the global reach of Afrobeats.
According to Akon, Wizkid was just a local artist before he signed him to his record label in 2008 and helped him gain international recognition.
Akon also claimed that he brought the business side of music to Afrobeats, developing infrastructure and opening up bigger markets for Nigerian artists.
He believes that without his efforts, Afrobeats would not have achieved its current level of success.
