Akpabio Responds to Abbo’s Allegations: “You’re Redirecting Blame for Personal Failures.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio’s office has publicly refuted recent allegations made by former Senator Elisha Abbo, which claimed that Akpabio was spreading misinformation and attempting to evade responsibility for Abbo’s removal from the Senate.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by Akpabio’s spokesperson, Rt. Hon. Eseme Eyiboh, the accusations were labeled as “spurious and malicious.”The statement asserts that Abbo is engaged in a campaign to rewrite history to conceal his own shortcomings.

Abbo, who previously held the representative seat for Adamawa North Senatorial District until a court ruling nullified his election, had acknowledged in 2023 that his earlier accusations against Akpabio lacked foundation, admitting they were “premature” and based on limited information.

Following last year’s discussions, Abbo reportedly retracted his allegations, understanding that Akpabio played no part in the legal issues leading to his dismissal.

The Court of Appeal conclusively determined that Abbo was unlawfully elected, which resulted in his expulsion. The statement highlighted Akpabio’s respect for judicial independence, rejecting any suggestions of interference in the legal system.

It further criticized Abbo for reigniting previously withdrawn allegations and addressed his claims regarding unpaid benefits, clarifying that all financial requests follow established procedures and were not blocked due to personal malice.

Additionally, the statement referenced a 2019 incident involving Abbo, where he was captured on video assaulting a woman, which resulted in a court order for him to pay N50 million in damages.

The office concluded by urging Abbo to take responsibility for his legal and political dilemmas instead of resorting to “media theatrics and reckless finger-pointing.”

Senator Akpabio remains focused on his legislative responsibilities and is undeterred by individuals trying to distort the narrative to cover their failures.
