APC Ridicules PDP After Lawmaker Gummi’s Defection to Party

In Zamfara State, the All Progressive Congress (APC) has taken a jab at the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) following the recent defection of federal lawmaker Suleiman Abubakar Gummi to the APC. Gummi, who was elected in 2023 under the PDP banner to represent the Bukkuyyum/Gummi federal constituency in the House of Representatives, is viewed as a significant political figure in the region.

During a press conference in Gusau, APC State Publicity Secretary Yusuf Idris Gusau stated that Gummi’s move reflects deeper issues within the PDP. “We are not surprised by his departure; many supporters will follow him, especially because Governor Dauda Lawal lacks true political acumen, operating more as a businessman,” he remarked.

Gusau warned that Gummi’s defection could have serious implications for the PDP’s prospects in the upcoming 2027 general elections, emphasizing Gummi’s influence in the Gummi and Bukkuyyum federal constituency. He promised an official welcome for Gummi into the party soon, urging APC supporters to remain patient and peaceful as political rivalries intensify in the run-up to the elections. Furthermore, he criticized the PDP leadership for its authoritarian tendencies, claiming that true democracy does not tolerate such governance.
