Rakim Mayers, also known as ASAP Rocky, is facing a significant legal challenge as he prepares to stand trial for a shooting incident involving his childhood friend, Terell Ephron.
The incident, which took place two years ago, recently came to public attention after a video allegedly showing ASAP Rocky shooting Ephron with a handgun went viral.
During the second day of his hearing, it was announced that ASAP Rocky would face trial on charges of shooting Ephron in the face during a physical altercation, resulting in minor injuries. The rapper pleaded not guilty to the charges.
ASAP Rocky is presently facing two counts of assault with a firearm, and if found guilty, he could potentially be sentenced to a maximum of ten years in prison.
The altercation between the rapper and Ephron, who had known each other since high school and was also a member of A$AP Mob, escalated into the allegations of the shooting.
In an additional complaint, Ephron alleges that ASAP Rocky took him to an undisclosed location outside the W Hotel in Hollywood on November 6, 2021, to resolve their dispute. Ephron further claims to have endured negligence, emotional distress, assault, and violence.
The incident’s CCTV footage has gone viral, and some witnesses claim to have seen Rakim brandish a firearm and discharge it.
However, ASAP Rocky’s legal team vehemently denies that he is the individual depicted in the video.
ASAP Rocky’s rise to fame in the music industry, particularly in light of his relationship with renowned artist Rihanna, has garnered significant attention. The couple shares two children together, and ASAP Rocky’s career has been bolstered by collaborations with artists like Drake.
