Former presidential candidate and ex-Vice President Atiku Abubakar has refuted claims suggesting he plans to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to join the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Atiku’s media representatives labeled these reports as misleading attempts to sow confusion amid ongoing coalition efforts aimed at challenging the All Progressives Congress (APC).
A statement from his media office emphasized that these rumors are unfounded and illogical.
It affirmed Atiku’s status as a dedicated member of the PDP and highlighted his involvement in forming a broad coalition that includes the PDP among other opposition parties.
The statement addressed the rumors directly: “We have observed that some news platforms are peddling unverified information that former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is abandoning the Peoples Democratic Party.
We wish to clarify that the so-called news of Atiku defecting to another party is a total fallacy that holds no merit in logic.”
Atiku Abubakar insisted that promoting such defection claims undermines the coalition’s goal of re-establishing strong governance in Nigeria, which has been under the APC’s leadership.
