Basketmouth continues to craft easily enjoyable projects with ‘Uburu’

Published on

Basketmouth has demonstrated his versatility and artistic ability beyond his primary field of comedy.

His latest project, ‘Uburu’, showcases a range of talented artists who are given the opportunity to showcase their individual styles under the guidance of Doktor Sett.

The album, which takes its name from the Swahili word for “Freedom”, is primarily focused on the pursuit of a happy and fulfilling life.

Perruzi’s expertly crafted Afrobeats track, to Falz’s captivating storytelling, and Boj and Duncan Mighty’s enchanting Highlife collaboration, ‘Uburu’ features commendable performances from all the featured acts.

Bayyani and Ghanaian Dancehall star Shatta Wale join forces for the energetic and infectious track ‘Goal Keeper’, serving as a testament to their intentions to live a good life.

Perruzi demonstrates his prowess as a songwriter and melody creator in the party anthem ‘Party’, reminding us of his brilliance in producing Afrobeats hits. Lojay impresses with his smooth vocals and catchy one-liners on the R&B joint ‘Jolie Jellof’.

Laycon shines under Basketmouth’s guidance in ‘Koko’, with Falz delivering his characteristic laid-back flows as they attempt to charm a woman over a simple yet effective beat produced by Doktor Sett.

Rising artist Qing Madi teams up with Victony for the slow-paced ‘Cover Me’, although it may well be skipped in favor of the more enjoyable Highlife rendition ‘Link Up’, delivered by Boj and Duncan Mighty. Fans of Hip Hop are treated to the closing track ‘Chasing Dreams’ by Timi Dakolo, Torrian Ball, and Reminisce.

While ‘Uburu’ may not match the quality of its predecessor ‘Heroscore’ nor Basketmouth’s debut album ‘Yabasi’, this slight dip in quality might be attributed to the distinct vision and creative direction behind each project. Nonetheless, ‘Uburu’ offers a collection of enjoyable singles and an overall pleasant listening experience.
