Oracle Business Limited and its subsidiaries have been closed down by the Benue State Government due to allegations of tax evasion. It is claimed that the company owes the government N130m in unpaid taxes over the past five years.
The acting Executive Chairman of the Benue State Board of Internal Revenue, Sunday Odagba, explained that this enforcement operation is part of a wider effort to collect taxes owed by corporate entities to the state government.
Oracles Business Limited, the management of the company, has dismissed these allegations and labelled them as political persecution. They argue that the tax liability was fabricated as an excuse to shut down the company.
They claim to have paid N38m towards the debt. The company also contends that its premises were closed due to its association with former Governor Samuel Ortom.
