The Benue State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has strongly opposed the reported dissolution of the State Working Committee (SWC) of the party, terming it as unauthorized, unlawful, and contrary to the constitution.
In a statement released on Thursday by Mr. Daniel Ihomum, the Publicity Secretary of the party, it was emphasized that the APC in Benue State rejects the purported dissolution declared by the National Working Committee on August 21, 2024.
The statement underlines that the members of the APC in Benue State should ignore the alleged dissolution as it lacks legality, going against established laws and the constitution.
It made reference to an existing court order from Honourable Justice T.A Igoche of the Benue State High Court, Makurdi, which bars the National Working Committee or any other body of the APC from making any changes to the Benue State Working Committee until the end of its four-year tenure period, pending a final decision of the court.
The APC reiterated that the attempt to remove or dissolve the currently serving State Working Committee is unauthorized and illegal, especially in the presence of a valid court order that restrains such actions.
The party emphasized that the NWC should respect the court order and not act in defiance of the judiciary.
The statement further urged all party members and supporters to disregard the alleged dissolution since both the NWC and NEC do not have the authority to overlook a court order.
Lastly, it was affirmed that the Local Government Primary Election planned for Saturday, 24th August, will proceed as scheduled, and members were encouraged to focus on party activities and objectives.
