The Federal Government has called for a meeting of the Tripartite Committee on the New National Minimum Wage following threats of a nationwide strike by Organised Labour.
This comes after Labour unions warned that if discussions on the new minimum wage are not concluded by May 31, 2024, they would not guarantee industrial peace in the country.
In an effort to avoid further unrest, the government has summoned the 37-member committee for a meeting today.
The committee, which includes representatives from the Nigeria Labour Congress and Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, will meet at the Nicon Luxury Hotel in Abuja, according to the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission.
It is hoped that this meeting will help facilitate discussions on the new minimum wage and meet the deadline set by Organised Labour.
Failure to reach an agreement could result in a nationwide strike, causing significant disruption to industries across the country.
