The Rivers State High Court in Port Harcourt is scheduled to announce its decision on the lawsuit filed by elected officials of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the national executive and the Caretaker Committee of APC in Rivers State.
This legal action, led by Emeka Beke, involves state, local government, and ward executives of the party challenging the legitimacy of the committee headed by Tony Okocha.
Justice Sika Aprioku, the presiding judge, has completed hearing arguments and final submissions from the legal representatives of the involved parties. The judge has withheld the judgment date pending further communication to be disseminated within 48 hours of the last hearing.
The official announcement from Justice Aprioku specified that the verdict would be delivered virtually at noon on August 12, 2024, with a strict reminder to the legal counsels to ensure punctuality for the proceeding.
Notably, heightened security measures will be in place around the courtroom during the virtual delivery of the judgment.
The legal team comprising Sam Etetegwung, Banarth Ezemoye, and Ezekiel Ubom, representing the aggrieved APC executives, are pursuing a clarification of the party’s constitution and applicable Nigerian laws regarding their suspension and the subsequent installment of the Caretaker Committee under Tony Okocha’s leadership.
