Award-winning British actress Dame Maggie Smith has died peacefully in a hospital at the age of 89, as announced by her sons Chris Larkin and Toby Stephens .
Born on December 28, 1934, in Ilford, Essex, Smith began her acting career as a teenager in Oxford and went on to become one of Britain’s most recognizable and prolific actresses.
With a career spanning over seven decades, Smith earned numerous accolades, including two Academy Awards, five BAFTA Awards, four Emmy Awards, three Golden Globe Awards, and a Tony Award. She was also one of the few performers to achieve the Triple Crown of Acting.
