Massive defections to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Edo and Delta states are expected to aid President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, according to Edo State Governor Senator Monday Okpebholo and APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje.
The defections include notable politicians from the Delta Unity Group, who joined the APC citing love for good governance and party inclusiveness demonstrated by President Tinubu.
The APC stakeholders have endorsed Tinubu’s leadership, with Ganduje expressing confidence in the party’s takeover of Delta State in the next election. Over 60% of PDP followers in Delta State have reportedly joined the APC, with the party assured of taking over the state.
However, not everyone is convinced about the impact of these defections. APC Chieftain Hon Olatunbosun Oyintiloye believes that recent defections won’t stop President Tinubu’s re-election bid, dismissing them as insignificant .
The monarch of Agbor, Dr. Benjamin Ikenchukwu, has urged President Tinubu to ensure peace and security nationwide for development.
Prominent party leaders, including Senator Ned Nwoko and former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege, attended the rally where the defections took place.
