The Department of Quantity Surveying plans to host its first international conference, leveraging its new Smart Class facility.
Agbani – The Department of Quantity Surveying will host its international conference in 2025.
The Head of Department, Dr. Ajaelu, while speaking with ESUT Monitor on Thursday, revealed this. He stated, “As a department, we will be hosting our first international conference this year. We will also leverage this opportunity to have our resource persons join online using the Smart Class. Students and staff will be able to participate virtually and learn more about the department,” he said.
“We are still at the initial stage of selecting a committee to plan the event and make it a memorable one. We want to host an international conference to help everyone understand the importance of Quantity Surveyors as professionals in the built environment. I want people to recognize their significance in the construction industry.”
He added that the department is committed to ensuring that dedicated students successfully graduate. “One of our remarkable achievements is the Smart Class, which was commissioned by the Vice Chancellor. My colleagues in the department have been instrumental in helping me achieve some of my plans,” Dr. Ajaelu said.
He emphasized that the Smart Class is functioning very well. “Students use the facility for projects, and lecturers utilize AutoCAD and other digital tools for teaching, allowing students to follow along with their work. The Smart Class is accessible to every student.”
“Since its commissioning, we have conducted several seminars and project defenses using the facility. It has also strengthened our relationship with external stakeholders who are engaging with our students. In my last year in office, I want us to be even better than we are now, using the influence of our graduates to build on the progress we have made with the Smart Class.”
He further addressed the newly matriculated Year One students, stating, “We want to assure parents and guardians that their wards are in safe hands. With the facilities we have in place, they can be confident that their children will receive quality education throughout their five-year stay with us,” he said.
