Disagreement Arises Over Fubara’s Invitation to Rivers Assembly Lawmakers

Published on

Former Rivers State Assembly member Samuel Ogeh and ex-Acting Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Ibim Semenitari have expressed opposing views regarding Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s invitation to the state lawmakers, led by Speaker Martins Amaewhule.

Fubara extended the invitation following a Supreme Court ruling that confirmed Amaewhule and other lawmakers as the legitimate members of the Rivers House of Assembly.

He also asked to discuss the 2025 budget with them.Ogeh criticized the invitation as disrespectful due to the absence of Fubara’s signature on the letter.

In contrast, Semenitari argued that the letter represents a chance for lasting peace in the troubled South-South state.

“Good intentions matter, but people must acknowledge their missteps. From my perspective, the letter lacks positive intent and disrespects the assembly,” Ogeh stated on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics.

Semenitari responded with optimism, saying, “I hope this can lead to a lasting peace because the interests involved are all about the well-being of River citizens.”
