Doyin Okupe, who served as the Director-General of Peter Obi’s 2023 presidential campaign, has announced that he will not support the former governor of Anambra State again.
During a recent appearance on Channels Television’s ‘Politics Today,’ Okupe commented on the backlash he faced for backing President Bola Tinubu’s economic recovery plan, stating that his critics are misinformed.
In his statement, Okupe emphasized that his earlier support for Obi was based on the understanding that a Southern president should be elected.
He recounted a conversation with Baba Adebanjo where he advocated for a Southern president from the South East. Okupe expressed disappointment that prominent Yoruba figures had initially backed Obi, only to be publicly criticized by him later on.
