Dr. Doyin Okupe, a former Presidential Spokesperson, has clarified that he has never discounted the possibility of President Bola Tinubu winning re-election in 2027. His statement comes in response to recent online media reports misrepresenting his views on the upcoming presidential elections.
Speaking from Lagos on Monday, Okupe, who also served as the Director-General of Peter Obi’s Presidential Campaign Council, reaffirmed his support for Tinubu’s administration and expressed confidence in the president’s ability to tackle the challenges facing Nigeria, which he attributes to the legacy of past governments.
“It has been brought to our attention that certain online publications have inaccurately reported Dr. Okupe’s statements on the 2027 presidential election,” he said. “One such article falsely claimed that Dr. Okupe suggested it would be ‘Game Over’ for Tinubu if the North were to nominate former President Goodluck Jonathan.”
Okupe emphasized that these claims misrepresent his actual comments, which were directed at what he referred to as “pseudo politicians” who mistakenly believe that a coalition between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Mr. Peter Obi, or a Northern candidacy for Jonathan, could easily defeat Tinubu
