Councilors elected across the 13 political wards in Enugu North Local Government Area have been urged to engage actively within their wards, driving developments that positively impact lives in alignment with Governor Peter Mbah’s vision for the state.
The Council Chairman, Dr Ibenaku Onoh, gave this directive on Tuesday during the swearing-in ceremony of the 13 councilors elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The event was held at the Enugu North Local Government Legislative House, located at Enugu North Secretariat, Ọkpara Avenue, Enugu.
Dr Onoh stated that the councilors represent the Government in their respective wards, where significant projects in health, education, and other critical infrastructures are underway. He highlighted their responsibility to monitor these projects’ progress and report successes or challenges back to the council and state.
“Today, you have been sworn in as the eyes of the government in your wards,” he said. “This is a time for governance and we all need to come together to deliver results. We have a Governor focused on leadership, who envisions Enugu as the best it can be, bringing our future closer through substantial infrastructural development. These developments must be safeguarded, and it is your duty and our collective duty to do so. You must monitor the progress of smart schools, PHC’s, roads, and other projects underway in your wards. The tomorrow is here philosophy abhors procrastination, therefore, we all must be proactive to meet our goals.”
Dr Onoh further called for a strong partnership between the councilors and the council to drive meaningful development across the wards, noting that he and his Deputy, Hon Echezona Ugwu, are fully committed to fostering people-centred development throughout the council area.
In his acceptance speech, the newly elected leader of the council, Hon Chidiebere Joseph Nnamani from Independence Layout Ward 11, expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve his people.
