The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ebonyi State has appointed Mr. Peter Nwele as its new chairman. Nwele expressed his commitment to reconnecting with party members who have left in order to strengthen the party and reestablish its dominance in the state by 2027.

During the state congress held in Abakaliki, he emphasized that Ebonyi has historically been a PDP state and will continue to support the party moving forward.

The congress was overseen by a seven-member committee from the party’s National secretariat, alongside representatives from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies.

Nwele dismissed claims of internal conflict within the party, asserting that the primary focus now is to facilitate the return of former members. He reiterated the PDP’s welcoming nature, stating it as a large family ready to reconcile and reclaim its lost mandate.

Ugonna Ogbonna, who led the congress committee, praised the event for its peaceful and transparent proceedings. Chief Ali Odefa, the National Vice Chairman for the South East, also noted the enduring enthusiasm for the PDP in the state and nationwide.

He expressed confidence that the party is unifying its efforts to recover power from the APC in the upcoming elections, affirming the peaceful reconciliation within the party’s executive committee. Odefa urged the newly elected officials to prioritize reconciliation efforts.
