The Edo State House of Assembly has increased the budget for 2024 to N409.2 billion, just five months after it was initially approved by Governor Godwin Obaseki.
In December 2023, the governor had signed a bill for a budget of N342.8 billion, which was already N17.5 billion higher than the original proposal.
The budget increase was requested by the governor and approved by the assembly in order to support the implementation of the recently approved N70,000 new minimum wage for state workers.
Lawmakers believe that this revised budget will enable Governor Obaseki to effectively complete his eight-year administration.
