Edo State PDP Decries Suspension of Local Government Chairmen

Published on

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State has condemned the suspension of chairmen in the 18 local governments by the House of Assembly, describing it as unconstitutional, null, and void.

According to Anthony Aziegbemi, the state PDP Chairman, the suspension disregards the recent ruling of the Chief Judge of Edo State and violates the Supreme Court’s decision affirming local governments’ autonomy and independence.

Aziegbemi argued that local council chairmen are not subordinates of the governor or the State Assembly and should not be suspended without being given the opportunity to defend themselves.

He emphasized that the Speaker and the Edo House of Assembly have exceeded their constitutional mandates and urged them to reverse their decision to respect the rule of law and democratic governance.

The PDP chairman also called on the Attorney General and Minister of Justice of the Federation to intervene, stating that the state government’s actions constitute a breach of the Constitution and a threat to security.
