Enugu, the capital of Enugu State, is set to host the Mixed Martial Arts Championship at the Base Event Centre, Independence Layout, Enugu, today, Sunday, March 31st, 2024.
Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Barrister Lloyd Ike Ekweremadu, disclosed this while speaking to newsmen at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu, yesterday.
He mentioned that it is part of the promise to develop all aspects of sports in the state and invited youths to come and take part in combat sports.
“We are embarking on massive development of all sports and using this medium to invite our youths to come and take part in combat sports,” he said.
“As I told you when I took over as Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Enugu State, we are looking at expanding the scope of sports in the state. It is no longer time to restrict ourselves to a particular sport; we are looking to expand various opportunities that are there for our youths.”
He mentioned that the championship is being sponsored by I Tour Africa in partnership with Warrior Sports Championship (WSC).
In his speech, the Chief Executive Officer of I Tour Africa, Wilson Uche, commended the Enugu State government for working towards growing all sports.
He mentioned that they chose Enugu because of the willingness and readiness of the state government to grow various sports.
He pointed out that international and local athletes will participate in the championship, adding that it will be the biggest of such events in the South-East of Nigeria.
He also mentioned that participants will be given prizes according to international standards.
