In an attempt to decongest the traffic gridlock and road trading affecting the movement of people and commuters along Holy Ghost, Ogbete, Chris Chemist, Old Park, and New Market axis of Enugu North Local Government Area of Enugu State, the council, in partnership with security agencies and the relevant stakeholders is set to end the illegal roadside trading and obstruction by transporters in the aforementioned areas.

Speaking with newsmen after his first security meeting with security chiefs and relevant stakeholders in the council, the Chairman of the Local Government Area, Dr. Ibenaku Onoh, said his administration has decided to take decisive actions to end the anomalies going on along these roads

He stated that the council, after the first security meeting under his leadership, decided to establish a task force made up of all the security agencies and relevant stakeholders to address the problems. The task force will begin its work next by sensitising the street traders and transporters along these areas giving them notice to relocate into the markets in the case of the trades and time to organise their operations in the case of the transporters after which full enforcement will commence.

Dr. Onoh, who toured all the areas with the security chiefs and relevant stakeholders particularly the acting president of ogbete main market and the leader of NURTW in Enugu North LGA, believes that a collective effort between the council leadership, security agencies, market leaders, as well as other relevant stakeholders, is needed to achieve the desired results.

Dr. Onoh commended the ultra-modern bus terminal being build by the State Government under Governor, Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. He Noted that the terminal once completed will put a permanent end to the gridlock which has affected these areas for many years especially along Holy Ghost and Chris Chemist axis. Dr, Onoh emphasised the need for transport unions especially the NURTW to cooperate with the government to establish orderliness amongst its members along the areas noting that the incessant parking along the roads for loading purposes is a major cause of the congestion along the areas. He emphasised the need to establish orderliness along the area while waiting for the ultramodern bus terminal to begin operations in a few months.

It was gathered that the maiden security meeting of the council chairman had in attendance the heads of security agencies, including five Divisional Police Officers in the council, the Head of the Department of State Services (DSS) in the council, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS), the heads of all the markets in the local government council, and representatives of the Ministry of Transport, top officials of the local government council, among others.
