The Dean of Student Affairs, Prof. Mrs. Okwor, revealed to ESUT Monitor the reasons behind the extension of the fee payment deadline. She stated that the portal would have been closed by now, but it has been extended.

“The students’ complaints are the reason why we changed our decision,” she said. “Students were complaining that they are finding it difficult to pay and requested an extension of the deadline.”

The management considered this because of the economic challenges in the country. “I want to use this medium to inform students and parents that the university has granted them one month to pay their fees,” she added.

The Student Affairs office appealed to the senate to extend the deadline, and it has been approved. The requirement to pay school fees before securing a hostel has also been suspended for now.

“Our students can now secure accommodation so they can attend lectures while we wait for December, when the portal will be closed.”

“This is an opportunity to inform students that we cannot plead with management again on their behalf for any further extension. By December 4th, every student must have completed their payments.”

She further noted, “In other universities, you can’t register or start school without paying your school fees within one week of resumption. But we are giving our students an opportunity, and I believe students will appreciate this.”

She stated that after the extended deadline, the portal will be closed, and if the university reopens it, there will be a penalty. “To avoid this, please make payment before the deadline,” she advised.

“I am concerned that some students have not yet returned to campus,” she continued. “The deans and HODs have been asked to ensure that lecturers are in class and that attendance is taken.”

Prof. Okwor emphasized that students without 75% attendance are not eligible and should not be allowed to write examinations.
