Faction Takes Jigawa PDP Leadership to Court Over Alleged Irregularities in Congresses

Published on

Tensions within the Jigawa State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have intensified as a dissident group has taken legal action against the party, challenging the legitimacy of recent local government and state congresses.

The faction, known as the Committee for Ensuring Justice and Privileges and led by Alhaji Abba Anas Adamu, claims the congresses were conducted in violation of both party regulations and democratic standards.

Speaking after court proceedings on Tuesday at the High Court in Dutse, Alhaji Adamu criticized the process as lacking transparency and deviating from constitutional norms.

He alleged that a single individual dominates the party’s leadership, marginalizing other members and undermining internal democracy.

Adamu further alleged that several local government congresses were improperly held in private residences rather than official venues and described the state congress as a mere selection of appointees instead of a democratic election.

The group is urging the court to annul the congress outcomes, citing serious procedural breaches. The case has been adjourned to May 28, 2025.

He warned that if these alleged injustices are not addressed, it could deepen divisions within the party and jeopardize its cohesion.
