The Federal Government has defended President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State, stating that the action was necessary to avert an implosion in the state.
The Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi, explained that the decision was based on the Supreme Court’s findings, which revealed that the governor, Siminalayi Fubara, had breached the constitution.
Fagbemi alleged that Fubara had tele-guided militants to blow up pipelines in the state, and that the president’s action was aimed at protecting critical national infrastructure.
The AGF also stated that the federal allocations withheld from Rivers State would be released to the sole administrator appointed by the president if requested.
