Celebrity food critic Opeyemi Famakin has shared his decision to stop discussing his financial situation, following a surprising encounter with the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS). Within hours of revealing his income during an interview, Famakin received an astonishing tax bill of N80 million.
In a recent conversation with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Famakin recounted the events surrounding this unexpected tax assessment shortly after publicly discussing his earnings. He expressed a belief that his statements may have prompted the swift action from the tax authorities.
“Just two days after I disclosed my finances, I received an email from LIRS, which included a tax bill of N80 million. I went ahead and paid it. It almost felt unreal,” Famakin confessed.
He added that he has no intention of discussing his financial matters again. Despite his use of the word ‘allegedly’ when making his income claims, the tax service was not persuaded. “Let’s not dive into that again. I am now a proud tax payer,” he stated.
