Edo State’s Governor Monday Okpebholo has been accused by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) of squandering over N30 billion left by his predecessor, Godwin Obaseki, in just 14 days.
The PDP alleges that the funds were used to compensate “godfathers” who supported Okpebholo during the September 21, 2024, governorship election.
According to Dr. Anthony Aziegbemi, the PDP’s caretaker committee chairman in Edo State, the Okpebholo-led government has failed to pay November salaries to civil and public workers, contrary to the record set by the previous PDP-led government.
Aziegbemi also claims that the APC-led government procured over N5 billion worth of vehicles without following proper procurement processes and is attempting to pass off over N2 billion as inauguration costs.
In response, the Edo State Government denied the allegations, stating that Governor Okpebholo would expose the PDP’s “eight-year rot” in the state.
The government maintained that it is committed to developing Edo State and recovering the commonwealth of the people from “dubious men”.
