Nollywood actress Halima Abubakar has taken legal action against Emeka Rollas, president of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN), seeking N30 billion in damages for alleged defamation.
Abubakar was suspended from the AGN due to supposed slander against Nollywood, but she claims she was never contacted or given a chance to respond to the allegations before the suspension was announced.
In a letter from her lawyers, P.D. Pius & Associates, dated October 20, 2024, Abubakar accused Rollas of intentionally damaging her reputation. The letter states that Abubakar has been dealing with health issues for years, and Rollas’s actions have caused her emotional distress and harm to her reputation.
The solicitors demanded that Rollas remove the defamatory post from his Instagram page and issue a public apology within seven days. If these demands are not met, Abubakar’s team will pursue further legal action.
This development follows Abubakar’s suspension from the AGN, which has sparked controversy in the Nollywood community.
