Hillary Clinton Accuses Republicans of Taking Orders from Elon Musk Amid Government Shutdown Threat

Published on

Hillary Clinton, the former US Secretary of State, has spoken out against Elon Musk’s influence over the spending drama on Capitol Hill, claiming that the Republican Party is taking orders from the world’s richest man.

This comes as House Democrats warn that ‘Extreme MAGA’ Republicans are driving the country towards a government shutdown. Clinton expressed her concerns in a post on X, stating that the Republican Party’s actions would result in stopping paychecks for troops and nutrition benefits for low-income families just in time for Christmas.

The US government is facing a partial shutdown at midnight Saturday if a passable deal is not reached to extend government funding to March and maintain spending at 2024 levels.

Elon Musk had strongly opposed the original spending deal negotiated by House Speaker Mike Johnson and Democrats, even threatening to back primary challenges against Republicans who voted for it. In response, House Republicans introduced a new version of the spending bill, which included disaster aid and a suspension of the debt ceiling for two years, as requested by President-elect Donald Trump.

However, the measure failed in the House due to opposition from some Republicans and Democrats, with many reportedly unhappy with Musk’s apparent influence.
