A well-known entrepreneur in the fashion industry in Nigeria, Toyin Lawani, recently shared a deeply distressing experience she went through during a surgical procedure. She disclosed that her lungs collapsed, leading to a ten-minute episode where she was technically dead.
Lawani took to her Instagram page to recount the ordeal she faced. She explained that she had been diagnosed with a degenerative spine condition and a cyst, which required surgical intervention. The operation involved the insertion of implants for her C5 and C6 vertebrae.
During her narration, Lawani revealed, “I experienced a complete cessation of vital signs for a total of ten minutes. While I was pregnant with my daughter, I began experiencing severe pain in my neck, back, and legs. It reached a point where I would become paralyzed on the left side of my body, rendering me immobile. I was reliant on painkiller injections to manage the discomfort.”
Lawani further disclosed the seriousness of her condition, stating, “I later received a diagnosis of a degenerative spine condition and a brain cyst. To bring me back to life, medical professionals had to work for a full ten minutes. My lungs collapsed, and I developed Oedema. As a result of the complicated situation, I underwent a tracheostomy procedure and relied on a tube for breathing assistance for a period of three months.”
Lawani demonstrated incredible resilience and perseverance. Her story serves as a reminder of the importance of early medical intervention, timely diagnosis, and the immense challenges that individuals can face when dealing with complex health conditions.
