I’m answerable to Edo people not any godfather – Olumide Akpata

Published on

Olumide Akpata, the Labour Party governorship candidate in the September 2024 election in Edo State, emphasized that he will not be influenced or controlled by any political benefactor or godfather if he is elected.

He stated during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today program that he is solely accountable to the people of the state. Akpata highlighted that this is a reason why the Labour Party government can be trusted, as they prioritize serving the people rather than being beholden to any external influences.

Akpata differentiated himself from other candidates in the forthcoming governorship election in Edo State, such as Asue Ighodalo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC), by asserting that he is not answerable to any political godfather.

This sets him apart as an independent candidate who is not tied to the interests of former or current governors.

Akpata refuted claims that his campaign is funded by Governor Godwin Obaseki, who supports Ighodalo as the PDP candidate.

He clarified that he is self-funded with the support of friends who believe in his ability to bring positive change to Edo State.

Akpata dismissed the conspiracy theories surrounding his campaign, emphasizing that he is driven by his own determination and the belief in his vision for the state.
