Mrs. Caroline Adepoju, the acting Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, has issued a cautionary note to parents and girls regarding the dangers of irregular migration that has tragically claimed the lives of many young Nigerians.
Addressing the 20th Outreach of the August Girls’ Assembly, a significant gathering of girls in Ibadan, Oyo State, Adepoju emphasized the importance of vigilance and informed decision-making.
Organized by the Worth-in-Womanhood arm of the Vine Branch Church Ministry, the outreach focused on the theme “Christian Culture.”
Adepoju highlighted the harsh realities faced by illegal migrants, including adverse weather conditions and predators who exploit them for profit, often resorting to organ trafficking.
In a plea directed towards parents, she said, “Safeguard your children from those who seek to exploit them by enticing them to go abroad.”
Turning her attention to the young girls in attendance, Adepoju cautioned, “Girls, be cautious about individuals who propose taking you abroad without involving your parents.”
She encouraged the girls to concentrate on their studies, maintain diligence, and uphold their faith.
Adepoju warned against associating with negative influences and indulging in substance abuse, urging the responsible use of the internet.
“Exercise prudence online and refrain from engaging in any activity you would not want others to discover. Shield yourselves from potential exploitation,” she advised.
Emphasizing the significance of obedience, particularly to godly and God-fearing parents, Adepoju provided invaluable guidance to the young audience.
With approximately 1,500 girls attending the AGA event, the session encompassed lessons in life skills, sexuality education, Christian values, and safety awareness. This assembly served as a platform to equip the youth with the knowledge and confidence to make informed choices and protect themselves from potential harm.
