“Is South-East still part of Nigeria”-Kanayo O. Kanayo

Published on

Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo is speaking out against the heavy military and police presence in Nigeria’s South-East region.

In a video posted on his Instagram page, Kanayo shared his concerns about the humiliation and delays travelers face in the region, highlighting the stark contrast to his own experience traveling from Ibadan to Lagos without encountering any checkpoints.

Kanayo’s question, “Is the South-East still part of Nigeria?” resonates loudly as he points out the excessive militarization and policing in the region.

He notes that travelers are often subjected to humiliating treatments, including being asked to disembark with their hands up, simply for traveling within the region.

The actor’s comments come as he reflects on his own journey from Ibadan to Lagos, where he covered 80 kilometers without encountering a single checkpoint.

In contrast, travelers in the South-East often face multiple checkpoints within a 200-kilometer radius.

Kanayo’s plea to the government is clear: recognize the plight of the South-East region and address the state of federal roads.

His words echo the sentiments of many Nigerians who are calling for change and greater accountability from their leaders.
