The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State has officially announced the dates, June 26-27, 2024, for conducting primary elections to determine its candidates for councilorship and chairmanship positions in the upcoming local council elections.
As per a statement issued by the party’s spokesperson, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, in Ilorin, it was emphasized that the party’s selection process will involve primary elections or ratifications where deemed necessary, to select candidates across the 16 local government areas within the state.
Adewara highlighted the party’s dedication to upholding genuine democracy by safeguarding individuals’ rights to pursue leadership roles.
Furthermore, the PDP has outlined the nomination fees for prospective candidates participating in the elections set for September 21, 2024. The expression of interest form for chairmanship candidacy will cost N20,000, while the nomination form is priced at N80,000, totaling N100,000 for the entire process.
Similarly, for councilorship positions, the expression of interest form is set at N5,000, with the nomination form priced at N20,000, resulting in a combined fee of N25,000 for interested councilorship aspirants.
“The sale of forms for those interested in Chairmanship and Councillorship seats will commence 22nd June, 2024, and will close on 25th June, 2024.
“By implication, all forms collected by aspirants must be filled and returned to the state office no later than Tuesday, 25th June, 2024.
“Additionally, female and the physically challenged aspirants are to pay 50% of the above rates for the nominations and the expressions of interest forms.
“This measure aims to encourage gender inclusions and deepen the inclusion of various strata of our society in the PDP’s programme for these elections”.
