Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, has issued an apology to the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigerian Police Force for the assault on their operatives at the Assembly on February 17.

In a statement, Obasa described the incident as “highly regrettable” and expressed his appreciation for the security agencies’ role in protecting lives and property. He acknowledged that the Assembly had requested additional support from the security agencies on the day of the incident.

Obasa’s apology comes as he resumed his position as Speaker, following a period of tension. Three assembly staff members who were charged with assaulting DSS operatives have been granted bail. The Speaker expressed hope for an amicable settlement to maintain the good relationship between the Assembly and security agencies.
