A former National Vice Chairman of the Northwest All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Salihu Lukman, has expressed his intention to potentially take legal action against the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party for alleged breaches of the APC constitution.
In a letter dated May 21 addressed to President Bola Tinubu, Lukman raised concerns over the failure to hold meetings of the party’s organs as required by the APC Constitution.
He highlighted that the party seemed to be operating without adherence to the provisions of its constitution, prompting him to bring this matter to Tinubu’s attention.
Lukman issued a two-week ultimatum to the NWC, calling for the activation of all APC organs in line with the party’s constitution. Failure to comply would lead him to consider taking legal action against the party.
He criticized the NWC for allegedly assuming the powers of all organs of the party, leading to what he described as discretionary decision-making by the National Chairman.
Lukman pointed out that several decisions made by the NWC not only contravene sections of the APC Constitution but also run counter to Sections 221-229 of Part II of the 1999 Nigerian Constitution as amended and the Electoral Act of 2022.
