In a recent revelation, Afrobeats artist Mayorkun recounted the pivotal encounter that altered his career when Davido discovered him through social media in 2016. His journey to fame kicked off with a cover of Davido’s song “The Money,” which caught the attention of the superstar.
Subsequently, Davido signed him to his DMW record label, leading to the success of Mayorkun’s debut single “Eleko,” which became a massive hit and earned him the Next Rated award at The Headies in 2018.
At the TraceLive x Tiger Beer concert in Lagos, Mayorkun shared emotional memories of his first meeting with Davido.
He expressed heartfelt thanks for the life-changing support and platform provided by Davido, acknowledging the strong bond he shares with his fans.
“I came into this world just like every other person,” he began softly. “But God gave me a gift along the way. On my journey to fulfill my destiny, I met a man named Davido, and everything changed. Now, I have the chance to connect with so many people.”
During his performance, which featured elements of Lagos culture with Eyo dancers and a surprise appearance by Poco Lee, Mayorkun energized the crowd by singing some of his popular hits, including “Eleko” and “Of Lagos.”
