Nollywood actress Mercy Johnson-Okojie has faced intense backlash on social media for publicly endorsing Monday Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the upcoming Edo State gubernatorial election.
A video circulating online shows Johnson-Okojie campaigning for Okpebholo at a rally, urging the crowd to support the APC candidate and emphasizing the need for change in Edo State due to the lack of basic amenities like electricity, water, healthcare, and security.
In the video, Johnson-Okojie asks the crowd if they are tired of the current state of affairs, pointing to the absence of essential services. She encourages them to vote for Okpebholo and the APC, symbolized by the broom.
However, her endorsement has sparked widespread criticism on social media, with many accusing her of supporting the ruling party despite the country’s economic challenges.
Okpebholo is running against candidates from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Labour Party (LP), among others, in the September 21 election.
