Nigerian Comedian Bovi Speaks Out Against Beating Children, Advocates for Alternative Discipline Methods

Published on

Nigerian stand-up comedian Bovi Ugboma has expressed his strong disapproval of beating children as a means of correction, emphasizing that children don’t deserve to be beaten regardless of their offense.

In a recent podcast episode, “The Honest Bunch,” Bovi questioned the effectiveness of physical punishment, asking if it’s truly meant to correct the child or if it’s a result of the adult’s frustration.

He also criticized the practice of senior students punishing junior colleagues in primary and secondary schools, stating that no child should be given authority over another in the name of “senior student”.

This stance is particularly important, considering the long-term psychological effects of child beating, including increased risk of mental health disorders, low self-esteem, and emotional dysregulation.
