NNPP Condemns Attempts to Arrest Kano Governor’s Spokesperson, Dawakin-Tofa, Despite Court Injunction

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has strongly condemned the ongoing harassment and attempts to arrest the Director-General of Media and Publicity for the Kano State Government, Mallam Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa.

Despite a court injunction restraining the Nigeria Police from taking such action, the police authorities, allegedly acting on directives from Abuja, have persisted in their efforts to arrest Dawakin-Tofa.

The NNPP National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, described the police’s actions as an affront to the rule of law and a blatant abuse of power, stemming from a petition reportedly written by former Kano State Governor and National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, or individuals acting on his behalf.

Dawakin-Tofa has been forced into hiding to avoid an unlawful arrest, and the NNPP has called on the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to ensure that the police resist partisan politics and respect Dawakin-Tofa’s fundamental human rights.

The situation has raised concerns about the abuse of power and the rule of law in Kano, with the NNPP urging the police to refrain from further harassment and intimidation of Dawakin-Tofa.
