The debate over which zone should produce the next Governor of Imo State after Orlu Zone has taken a new turn with the emergence of Owerri Zone Peoples Mandate (OWZOPEM), a political group championed by prominent figures including Prof. Vitalis Orikeze Ajumbe, Capt. David Mbamara, and Chief Mike Nwachukwu.
At their inaugural meeting in Owerri on Saturday, June 29, the group formed a high-powered committee to engage with Okigwe Zone’s Okigwe Global Elders Forum and Orlu Zone’s Orlu Political Consultative Assembly (OPOCA) to avoid conflicting interests in their respective bids to produce the next Governor.
The group aims to foster unity and cooperation among the zones, recognizing the need for a collaborative approach. They also plan to reach out to the people of Ohaji/Egbema regarding their decision to remain part of Imo State, amidst the agitation for the creation of Orlu State.
OWZOPEM commended Governor Hope Uzodinma for his achievements in the state and his support for Owerri Zone’s aspirations to produce the next Governor.
By fostering dialogue and cooperation, the group seeks to ensure a peaceful and united approach to the upcoming gubernatorial elections.
