In a recent statement, the Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) alleged that Governor Usman Ododo has turned the Government House into polling units and collation centers for the local government elections set for October 19. Despite this being the designated election day, the PDP noted a complete absence of electoral activities throughout the state.
Signed by Alhaji Tijani Aruwa, the PDP urged citizens to dismiss claims from KOSIEC Chairman Mamman Eri about a transparent and credible election, stating that these assurances are misleading. They warned anyone who believes Ododo will act differently from his predecessor, Yahaya Bello, that they will face disappointment.
The PDP highlighted a lack of preparation for the elections, with all INEC offices in the local governments remaining locked and alleging that election materials have been relocated to the Government House for manipulation. The party anticipates that results from this “illegitimate process” will be announced later, with minimal ballot boxes displayed for media to create a false impression.
The PDP called on the National Assembly to accelerate local government reforms to empower citizens to choose their representatives effectively.
