PDP in Kaduna to Contest Legitimacy of Local Government Elections in Court.

Published on

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State has announced its intention to legally challenge the legitimacy of the local government elections held on October 19. The party criticized the covert swearing-in ceremony for the 23 local government council Chairmen conducted by Governor Uba Sani, labeling the event as a threat to democracy.

According to a press release from Maria Dogo, the PDP’s Publicity Secretary, the Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) declared candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winners of all 23 chairmanship and 255 councilorship positions.

PDP expressed skepticism regarding the election, asserting that no legitimate local government elections took place on October 19, and denounced the subsequent actions—such as issuing certificates of return and the swearing-in—as illegitimate.

They reaffirmed their commitment to contesting the recently passed election law that they believe was improperly introduced into the election process.
