A faction of the PDP youth from Gombe State has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to step back from active political contests and take on a mentoring position within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
At a press conference in Gombe on Thursday, the group’s chairman, Jamilu Adamu, praised Atiku for his considerable impact on the party and Nigeria’s democratic progress, recognizing him as a respected figure with an influential political legacy.
Adamu highlighted the importance of generational change within the PDP and encouraged party leadership to facilitate greater participation from younger members in the party’s revitalization efforts.
“We believe that the experience and insight of His Excellency Atiku Abubakar can still significantly benefit the PDP through mentorship and support for new leaders,” Adamu stated.
He clarified that the suggestion was not meant to undermine Atiku but to strategically enhance the party’s future.
The chairman insisted that the PDP must embrace new viewpoints to empower younger voices in decision-making processes.
Reiterating their loyalty to the party, Adamu urged stakeholders to collaborate in building an inclusive and dynamic opposition that can effectively tackle Nigeria’s pressing challenges.
