The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Youth Frontiers has shown approval of the Federal High Court’s decision in Abuja, which prohibits the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from disbursing monthly allocations to the Rivers State Government.
Earlier reports indicated that the court ruled on Wednesday that the handling of monthly allocations by Rivers Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, since January 2024, constitutes a serious constitutional violation that must cease.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, who delivered the ruling, also indicated that the submission of the 2024 budget before the four-person Rivers House of Assembly violates constitutional mandates.
During a press conference on Wednesday, the PDP Youth Frontiers expressed their approval of the ruling, affirming it as a restoration of faith in the judiciary’s role as a protector of Nigeria’s democratic principles.
Henry Owolabi, the group’s national coordinator, urged for the immediate reversal of all past actions undertaken by the four-member assembly.
He stated, “We call on our esteemed party, the PDP, to take decisive steps to avert further constitutional violations by guiding the Rivers State House of Assembly to properly fulfill its role in reviewing and passing a valid 2024 budget for the state. This is essential to prevent unnecessary hardship for the citizens caused by the governor’s mistakes.
“The party should also instruct its members in the state assembly to ensure that all unlawfully used funds are traced and reclaimed from Governor Fubara,” Owolabi added.
