Governor Godwin Obaseki of Edo State has announced that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) may refuse to sign the Peace Accord.
Obaseki claimed that the police, who are responsible for enforcing the agreement, have demonstrated their support for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and are waging war against the PDP.
This statement was made during a meeting with the Chairman of the National Peace Committee (NPC), General Abdulsalam Abubakar, who was visiting the Government House in Benin City ahead of the signing of the Peace Accord on September 12, 2024.
Obaseki expressed concern that the police have been biased against the PDP, citing the arrest of several PDP leaders including the Chairman of Esan West Local Government Area.
He also mentioned that his requests for due process to be followed were flouted, undermining his authority as the Chief Security Officer of the state.
Obaseki questioned the possibility of entering a peace accord with an umpire who has already shown bias towards one party.
