In preparation for the upcoming Ondo State governorship election, all participating political parties will gather to sign a Peace Accord on November 8.
This initiative, organized by the National Peace Committee and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), aims to foster a peaceful electoral environment.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, announced the initiative during a Thursday meeting in Abuja, where he also addressed identified potential conflict zones in Ondo and prompted security agencies to enhance conflict management efforts.
Yakubu further shared that INEC is planning a final readiness assessment next week, which will involve key stakeholders, law enforcement agencies, and transportation providers.
He revealed that the period for collecting Permanent Voter’s Cards (PVCs) has concluded, with 64,273 out of 89,777 cards collected, resulting in a 71.6% collection rate. He acknowledged the contributions of civil society organizations in mobilizing voters for the card collection and confirmed that INEC would publish the total PVC collection statistics by polling unit on its website.
Additionally, Yakubu expressed approval of advancements in the voter accreditation and result upload processes, as well as improvements in media and observer accreditation procedures.
