The Presidency has responded to Nasir El-Rufai’s defection from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Social Democratic Party (SDP), citing speculation about his presidential ambition.
President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Policy, Daniel Bwala, questioned El-Rufai’s motives, suggesting that his actions are driven by “inordinate ambition” rather than ideology or progressivism .
El-Rufai, a founding member of the APC, announced his defection on Monday, citing the party’s deviation from its founding ideals.
However, the Kaduna State chapter of the APC has downplayed the impact of his exit, stating that the party remains focused on the 2027 elections and is unperturbed by El-Rufai’s departure .
